MkulimaGPT is an innovative initiative, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through the "Catalyzing Equitable Artificial Intelligence (AI) Use 2023" program. At its heart, our mission is to empower Tanzanian maize farmers, providing them with digital and virtual extension support systems via WhatsApp. Our broader vision encompasses the integration of IoT devices for real-time, non-visual disease detection.
Powered by the advanced GPT-4 model, MkulimaGPT enables users to access essential information on the preparation, cultivation, and management of maize crops tailored to the Tanzanian context. Our tool supports interactions through both text and voice notes, entirely free of charge.
This project is hosted at Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania working in collaboration with the African Centre of Excellence in IoT at the University of Rwanda, merging expertise to drive agricultural progress.
Though tailored for Tanzanian farmers, the insights and support from MkulimaGPT are accessible to anyone, anywhere in the world. We believe in the power of knowledge sharing and are committed to creating a global community of informed and empowered farmers.
